Social superstar is about a person’s ability to have a seemingly perfect life online, despite their many challenges. It’s human to have low points, but people often feel the need to only show the best parts of their lives. Social media, in this way, can make people feel alienated and alone. This song is for the people who see that.
lyrics
Back then we were living for the hell of it
Now we’re trying to stay relevant
Our egos are so delicate, yeah
Go out to get a decent photo
Just to let everybody know
You like your life when you don’t, yeah
I know you’re probably getting tired
You’re probably getting tired, it’s true
When everybody seems so happy
Everybody seems so happy but you
Young girl keep swiping through your filters
‘Cause your beauty is what built you
But vanity’s what kills you, yeah
I know it probably feels real
But the images you steal
Don’t tell me how you really feel
I know you’re probably getting tired
You’re probably getting tired, it’s true
When everybody seems so happy
Everybody seems so happy but you
Social superstar
You don’t know who you are
Smile for the camera
The more you use your phone
The more you feel alone
They all wanna see ya
Back then we were living for the hell of it
Now we’re trying to stay relevant
Our egos are so delicate, yeah
